Brig. Gen. Jennifer Buckner will lead the Army’s cyber directorate at the Pentagon.

Buckner, who is currently the deputy commander of the offensive task force devoted to countering the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, called Joint Task Force-Ares, will become the director of cyber within the Army’s G-3/5/7, according to a Department of Defense release.

The position is in charge of policy, strategy and requirements across the Army as it applies to cyber, electronic warfare and information operations. The Army disbanded its electronic warfare division in 2016 merging it with cyber and information operations under this new directorate.

Among some of the issues the directorate is working include integrating tactical cyber and electronic warfare capabilities within traditional Army brigades and working through a cyber direct commissioning pilot.
