Maj. Gen. Robert Skinner will be the new commander of 24th Air Force/Air Forces Cyber.

This summer, Skinner will replace current commander, Maj. Gen. Christopher Weggeman, who will move on to Air Combat Command to be the special assistant to the commander.

Skinner, who is currently the deputy of Air Force Space Command, has previous joint cyber experience as the deputy commander of U.S. Cyber Command’s global defensive arm, Joint Force Headquarters-Department of Defense Information Networks.

As commander of AFCYBER, Skinner will wear a multitude of hats: commander of 24th Air Force, responsible for operating and maintaining Air Force networks; commander of the Air Force service cyber component to U.S. Cyber Command; and commander of Joint Force Headquarters-Cyber, which is responsible for integrating cyber effects in campaign plans for European Command, Transportation Command and Strategic Command.

Skinner will also take over 24th Air Force in a transitionary period for Air Force cyber as the service recently announced 24th will be realigned from Air Force Space Command to Air Combat Command.
