The Secretary of Defense announced Monday that Burke “Ed” Wilson has been selected to be the deputy assistant secretary of defense for cyber policy, a long unfilled position within the Pentagon.

In this role, Wilson will be the point person for cyber policy within the department working a myriad of issues such as the elevation of Cyber Command to a unified combatant command as well as splitting the dual hat relationship of Cyber Command and NSA.

Wilson, who retired as a two-star Air Force general Jan. 22 according to a DoD website, previously served as the deputy principal cyber adviser to the secretary of defense and acting deputy assistant secretary of defense for cyber policy as well as commander of 24th Air Force/Air Forces Cyber, the Air Force component to U.S. Cyber Command.
